Mag Well         Back Strap       Profiles         1911's

I am very partial to the 1911. Once explained, if you ever learn the system, nothing else will work as well. The first series of pictures are three guns built over time for different reasons. The Mag Well picture shows an evolution of design. In working with Caspian Arms, I convinced Gary Smith to make a change. The first gun had to be welded up and cut in the front, to allow any magazine to be used in the gun. The original design forced the mags to be fit to the gun. The second gun was the first change to the design, but still needed to be cut further. The third gun is the final product from Caspian and allows for any magazine to be used.

The back straps are for different reasons. The first gun is completely checkered 20lpi on the frame and mainspring housing, matched. The Brown High Grip safety and memory grove provide a positive, comfortable hold. The second gun was built for IPSC competition and has a standard Brown grip safety, deactivated. It is intended to allow a fast draw, and allow for a sloppier grip in doing so. Still comfortable, with easy access to ride the thumb safety. The third gun is a carry gun, and is stippled on the front and back. It will not snag on clothing, or chew it up as checkering can and will. All parts are fitted with comfort and reliable function in mind. Yes, reliability means all safeties work when in the hand, and when not in the hand.

The final picture is a collection of 1911's. The fourth addition is a 1965 production Colt Lightweight Commander, in .45ACP. It has been fitted with a S&W NM barrel. These all look good, and they shoot even better!
